The inctricate pattern of the smoke has a kind of hypnotic effect looking at it as a viewer, layers upon layers of patteern, that is the thing that stands out the most in this image.

Looking at this I am finding myself focusing on the shapes on the left side much more so than on the right, mostly cause that is the part that is in focus.
The thing about images of smoke is that you that you generally want it crisp and sharp, and that is what makes images like this quite tricky to pull off properly.

In that light I would have to say that a good job has been done on the capture, but I am wondering if so much smoke is necessary.
I think that less is more would go a long way on an image like this, especially as I am mainly just looking at at a couple of interesting shapes withing the frame.

Technically for the image as a whole everything is just fine, I would have loved to see this same shot done at F16 or even F22 to get everything sharp.
1/200th of a second is more than enough for such a shot, even handholding as the smoke isn´t moving very fast, so you could have easily gone down to 1/125th of a second to compensate for closing down the lens a little.

I find the purple hue on this to look slightly unnatural, it may have looked like that in the light it was shot, but on a personal preference I would lean towards a more natural look.
Or if you are going the unnatural way I would push it even further, maybe invert it and create black smoke on a white background, and then colour it.

All in all I think the image is interesting and I can look at the pattern of the image for quite some time, but it lacks that little something to make it stand out from the many simular smoke shots out there.
